Homemade soap with colored relief

Homemade soap with colored relief

In today's blog session, we'll once again focus on a favorite creative technique of ours - namely, making soaps using the Melt and Pour technique, which many of you are also fans of. We, on the other hand, like to experiment, and with real pleasure share ideas with you. Today we will show how to quickly and easily make an embossed soap bar, with a detailed colored relief and iridescent shades. We will use and mix different dyes, clear and white soap base, and a mold for highly detailed castings.

Required materials:

Mold for castings

Melt and Pour Soap Base - White

Melt and Pour soap base - transparent

Liquid soap colorant

Mineral mica powder Art Mica

Transparent and white soap bases for the Melt and pour technique have a different final effect after coloring depending on the type of colorant. As an example, if you add liquid pigment to a transparent soap base, it will remain transparent, but will be tinted in the corresponding color, and the saturation of the color depends on the amount of pigment you have added. If you add a powdered colorant – in this case, mica powder – the fine particles settle in the liquid so that after solidification, the part acquires a saturated but dense color. With the white base, the effect is the opposite - if you add a liquid colorant, you will get a detail with a pale color. If you add mica powder, you will get a very pale shade of color.

After these clarifications, it's time to roll up our sleeves and show you how to cast a bar of soap with colored relief and iridescent shades.

We have chosen a casting mold with quite fine details, which we will precisely fill with different colors so that the relief of the future soap bar is colored separately from the rest - here you will find a variety of silicone molds and casting molds with which you can experiment.

Melt a small amount of white soap base and add liquid food coloring. If you want to achieve a really pastel and pale shade, a very small amount of pigment is needed. Carefully pour the colored base into the parts of the mold that you want to be colored in the corresponding color - it is advisable to use a pipette or syringe to avoid spilling outside the part. Wait for it to cool down well. Be patient and wait for each individual layer of the poured base to harden well before proceeding to the next step - if you are tempted to pour the next layer before the previous one has set, you risk the colors spilling and mixing haphazardly.

To shape and color the next detail, add mica powder in the chosen color to a transparent base. Again, precisely apply in the free cavities of the mold, and let the part harden. We have now shaped and colored the top of the embossed soap.

Now we will continue to fill gradually with different colors.

Tilt the mold slightly and again pour a small amount of melted base, but do not fill it all the way. Leave the mold on an incline and wait for it to harden.

After the dose has cooled, reposition the mold and pour the next color, again without filling all the way.

Alternate different positions and colors in this way, waiting for the front layer to harden after each color. Continue until you have filled the entire mold.

The end result is beautifully colored soap bars, suitable both for gifting and for your home spa treatments.
